ARTIST PROFILES
Dieter Engler
Dieter was born in Berlin, Germany
His family arrived in South Australia in 1959.
In 1965, they moved to the Adelaide Hills, where Dieter
attended the Norton Summit Primary School, and then Urrbrae
Agricultural High
School, and Norwood High School to complete his secondary schooling.
From 1976 to 1978, Dieter attended Torrens College of Advanced
Education (Underdale), where he studied Secondary Art teaching.
From 1979 to 1994, Dieter taught in various high schools in
South Australia, most of that time being at Clare High School. His
teaching
appointments were only ever part time, allowing him to develop his own
art
career.
His art career began in earnest in 1989, when he
took long
service leave, to paint for the whole year.
In the next few years, he had a number of exhibitions in the
Mid North of South Australia, and in Adelaide.
First exhibited: Perth, London - 1995, Sydney - 1997,
Malaysia - 1997, Japan
- 1999, New Zealand - 2001, Canada print show - 2002
Dieter now lives and works in
the Adelaide Hills.

Tom
has been painting full-time since 1997, living and working from his
home
in Victor Harbor, coastal
South
Australia. Over the years Tom has painted a wide range of
subjects.
The coastal landscape has
been
predominant in his choice of subject.

Professor
Anthony J. McMichael
Climate Change and
Health, Present and Future Risks: A Core Issue for
'Sustainability'
Professor McMichael's
research interests have spanned dietary, social and environmental
epidemiology. In South Australia, from 1979 to 1994 he
co-ordinated a long-running cohort study of environmental lead exposure
and early child neurocognitive development in Port Pirie. During
the 1990's he helped pioneer the study of health risks from global
environmental change, especially climate change. From 1993 to
2006 he played a leading role in health risk assessment for the United
Nation's intergovermental Panel on Climate Change.
